Farewell! The Front and Rumpus Room

It’s a very sad farewell to two much loved Melbourne ARIs. The Front and Rumpus Room.

The Front closed its doors on Friday February 27th. However, even without space The Front will continue to manifest and grow, with projects planned for later in the year – this time outside its original space. In her farewell blog Director and co-convenor, Deb Bain-King writes

“We have projects planned for for July – September that will take place at various locations around the Docklands. Chantal Wynter will lead a series of art walks in conjunction with a curated program by Anabelle Lacroix, that will be supplemented by works curated by myself, Deb Bain-King. We will keep you posted. We are happy to say The Front will continue to develop but without a space.”

That is good news!  looking forward to seeing the new projects.

On March 3, Ashlee Laing sent out his notice that Rumpus Room will be temporarily suspended. This was sad news indeed as it also meant that the legendary Splendour on Your Arse – Suburban Backyard Festival would have to be cancelled too. However, like The Front, Ashlee assures us that this is not the end for the Rumpus Room Program -it is only suspended until Ashlee and family can find another place to call home. We look forward to the new Rumpus Room.
