I met Zoe Crowder, a jeweller, at the Frog Hollow Centre for the Arts in Darwin where she maintains a studio. This arts centre is the home of DVAA. There are 4 studios and artists apply to lease them at very reasonable rates. According to Zoe there are many reasons that artists would want to do this. One reason is that rents in Darwin are surprisingly high. It is one of the most expensive cities in Australia. Another reason is the proximity to other artists the studios allow, especially in a place like Darwin where the art community and art scene is quite small.
